Spry Godfrey Gundry

Maryland was established with religious freedom for Catholics. The colonial economy was based on tobacco cultivated by Africans who had been enslaved.

Spry Godfrey Gundry was the son of Mary Harmer and Benjamin Gundry. His step-father was James Maxwell.

On September 30, 1712, James conveyed 100 acres of Jullican or Galleon Bay to his step-son, Spry Godfrey Gundry, for his natural life (Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin, Volume 30). From 1703-05 Spry appeared on the Baltimore County Tax list on the north side of Gunpowder Hundred.

Spry and his wife Mary had at least two children:
Benjamin Gundry (1732, died as an infant) and
Mary Gundry (1735).
